S
usie and Simon’s love story started through a shared friend- a college friend of Simon’s who was at the same University as Susie, back in 2004.
They chatted online a few times, and quickly became friends. Simon then arranged to travel round the country to visit several of his friends at their respective universities, culminating in a trip to Oxford, where he met Susie. He has since told her that he arranged the whole trip as an excuse to get to meet the girl he fell in love with!
They agreed to meet up a few more times afterwards, and quickly realized they were made for each other!
Susie and Simon had a long-distance relationship at first, travelling between universities to see each other whenever they could. Being from the Isle of Man and Dorset respectively meant that outside of term time they were even further apart. However, their determination to make their relationship work is testament to the strength of their love.
On their sixth year anniversary, Simon took Susie back to Oxford as a surprise. Just before sunset, he took her on a walk into the beautiful Christchurch Meadows, where they used to love picnicking and duck-watching. Susie told me the meadow was wonderfully snowy, and she loves snow, so she was very content with admiring the romantic scenery. But she didn’t expect what came next...at sunset, Simon got down on one knee on the snowy ground and asked Susie to be his wife. With tears in her eyes, she said yes! He then placed a beautiful and unique, sapphire and diamond ring on her finger.
Afterwards, they shared some champagne, and went for a meal at the same restaurant where they had their first date, which Simon had booked as a further lovely surprise on that unforgettable day…
